English Country House Plans
English Country home plans encompass many styles including Tudor, Queen Ann, Gothic, Victorian, and Shingle Style. English Country home plans also include cottage home plans. English Country home plans trace their origins to the early European countryside with their picturesque fairy tale style which became popular across American between 1890 and 1940. Although English Country home plans are closely associated with informal living and a sense of relaxed rural living, they can also be very elegant and accepted as a large home or mansion. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the English Country home was used as a place for relaxing, fox hunting, polo, and picnicking for the elite. English Country home plans can be one to two stories high with an asymmectrical design. The roof line is steep and features complex cross-gables. The exterior is typically brick, stone or stucco siding with a massive, prominent chimney. There is usually a central door and trimmed, small, multi-paned windows often with shutters. English Country home plans may also have wrap-around or rear porches with Victorian style spindle work and detached or setback garages. English Country home plans are warm and inviting to look at. |
